Wow! I’m excited and honored to get to interview Marianne Bernsen.
When I first saw Marianne’s work I was intrigued. I wanted to know more! She works with different mediums and her work is, well, I’ll let you decide for yourself.
Meet Marianne Bernsen an artist residing here in Tucson, Arizona…
Marianne, your work is bright, fun, and energizing. What compels you to create the work that you do?
Colorful work- yes I am attracted to pattern and color. I like to experiment with different ways to play and use color and texture – whether it is through my necklaces, canvas work or collage work. There seems to be a never ending way to express color, texture and pattern- and that for me, is the joy and the challenge. I do not like to blend, but rather to make a statement. Stand out! Be NOticed! Take a chance.
What is your journey? How did you get to where you are today?
I am self taught. I wore several hats before I found my art niche. I owned a book store then a shoe store, plus 9 years of teaching social studies in public school. Sadly it can take a life time to figure out who we are and where we want to go. It is a journey that is so layered and complicated. I feel that making art lets me take lots of paths. Plus-It is private and also public! It requires tons of self motivation and that is hard also.
Is there any advice that you would give to an aspiring artist?
Stay as well rounded as you can and believe that life is a lot about attitude (be curious) and its details, (learn from others, take your friendships and family seriously, stay open to new ideas, but also be picky and keep a focus.)
